Junior Squad tour to the JK in the Forest of Dean in England over Easter.
The weekend started with a Sprint race round University of West England campus in Bristol, very fast, not that complicated, and for many a valuable introduction to Emit timing system.
The main 2-day competition was held on adjacent parts of the Forest of Dean.  Its mostly runnable forest with large-scale contour features which were used to generate some interesting route choice legs on Day 1.  On Day 2 the Elites visited an area named (evocatively I hear) The Pludds, but most courses had long legs in runnable forest connecting short intense sessions in very intricate overgrown mine workings.
Finally the Relays were in Caer Went, an abandoned army camp littered with obstacles - high fences, huge berms, railway cuttings, thickets and even a parked train - great fun to run and careless mapreading could cost a lot of time.
 
The outstanding individual results were Nick Simonin's (BOC) 2nd overall and 1st on Day 1 in the highly competitive M18L, and Niamh Corbett's (CorkO) win overall in W12A.  But the Irish were well-represented on the podium.  In the Junior classes Sean Flynn (Fin) won Day 2 to take 3rd in M16B.  Jill Stephens (LVO) and Caoimhe O'Boyle (CNOC) took 2nd and 3rd respectively in W10A.  On Day 2 Aine McCann (LVO) was 2nd in W14A, and Ryan Carney (CNOC) 2nd in M14B.
In the Relays Kevin O'Boyle (CNOC), Alex Simonin (BOC), Nick Simonin (BOC), running for the Irish Junior Squad finished just 9 seconds behind the winners of the M48- Relay (the team is deemed non-competitive as they are members of different clubs)
